CentrePort welcomes MSC Eagle service to Americas

Must read

The MSC Eagle Service will begin calling at Wellington from next February, adding to the existing North and South-East Asian and Trans-Tasman services.

CentrePort Chief Executive Anthony Delaney reported that the new service, in unison with the other services to call at CentrePort, will be a boost for New Zealand exporters and importers, along with the central region’s economy. It will support many jobs, including new roles at the Port.

Delaney said: “This continues the positive momentum for CentrePort and complements the existing and recently announced services that call at our port. We appreciate the vote of confidence that our customers have in what we have been developing since the impact of the Kaikōura earthquake in 2016.”

Delaney reported that the company’s customers can use CentrePort as a hub and access competitive transit times to markets such as Australia, Asia and the Americas, via the shipping services calling our ports.

“The arrival of MSC Eagle, along with our other services, highlights CentrePort’s efficiency and productivity following investments we’ve made into resilience and capacity of the Port,” Delaney added.

“It also utilises the investments made in transport connections to the Port, including rail, road and the Cook Strait Ferries.

“This provides us with an opportunity to continue to support business and regional investment opportunities across central New Zealand, including distribution hubs like Te Utanganui in the Manawatū and export producing centres like Taranaki, Whanganui and Marlborough.”
