DHL Express Philippines boosted its electric vehicle fleet with 18 new additions –13 vans and five motorcycles, the company said in a Facebook post.

The vans were manufactured by Build Your Dreams (BYD) and the motorcycles, Ecooter.

The new units will be deployed to deliver shipments in Metro Manila cities such as Makati, Ortigas, Manila, and Las Piñas, and also Laguna and Clark, Pampanga.

The company began acquiring EVs in January 2022, initially with three vans. Each of the units can carry 3.5 cubic meters of load and travel up to 250km. They were deployed to deliver shipments in Ortigas, Makati and Pasay.

“With our goal of reducing logistics-related emissions to zero by 2050, we are attempting to reach a larger milestone. The purchase of these electric vehicles is our first step towards greener logistics, which will benefit the environment, our customers, and our people,” said Nigel Lockett, country manager of DHL Express Philippines, in a statement on Jan 5, when the company first acquired EVs.

“We are proud to bring this important, and sustainable solution to our operations here in the Philippines,” added Promod George, senior director of Operations, DHL Express Philippines. “These new additions contribute two significant advantages to our fleet: reduced carbon emissions and lower operating costs.”

DHL’s initiative to further decrease logistics-related emission to zero by 2050 is under the Deutsche Post DHL Group EUR 7 billion (US$7.62 billion) investment over the next ten years to reduce the group’s carbon footprint.

The Group’s global target of running 60% of its vehicles electrically by 2030 will strengthen its portfolio dedicated to EV logistics as well as the increased pace of decarbonization, the company said.
