In the port of Genoa in recent weeks, three fundamental interventions have been completed that strengthen the operational capabilities, safety, and intermodality of the commercial hub, with a total investment of over 20 million euros.
The Western Ligurian Sea Port System Authority announces this in a note: “2025 marks a fundamental milestone in the transformation path of the port of Genoa. With the completion of numerous projects of the Extraordinary Program, worth over 3.5 billion euros, the Western Ligurian Sea system is consolidating itself as an integrated logistics platform projected towards global markets”.
Three completed interventions:
Regarding the three completed infrastructure interventions, these are:
The reconfiguration of Calata Olii Minerali, which now allows for the safe accommodation of tankers up to 130 meters and the simultaneous operation of two ship berths, doubling the potential of the liquid bulk sector;
Then the enhancement of the Calata Bettolo yard, prepared for high-tonnage loads and to accommodate advanced automation technologies in container handling, with integration between ship, quay, and land connections;
Finally, the renewal and modernization of the Bettolo-Rugna railway yard, already partially operational since May 2025, which has nine 500-meter tracks, high-efficiency rail-mounted transtainer cranes, and an innovative locomotive transfer system. The infrastructure allows for the management of up to 20 pairs of trains per day, paving the way for a further increase with the completion of the Genoa Node – Third Pass.
These works are part of a strategic vision that aims to progressively transform the Western Ligurian Sea port system into a high-performing integrated logistics platform, with operational spaces and land, maritime, and digital connections capable of supporting every type of traffic relevant to the national and European economy.
