Terminal Puerto Arica (TPA) marked a new milestone with the first call of a container ship linked to the Alpaca service of Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC), the MSC Lome V, which consolidates the terminal’s strategic position as a key connection point for the foreign trade of the Andean Macrozona.

“The operation allowed for the unloading and loading of containers destined for various international ports, meeting the highest standards of safety and operational efficiency. The process involved precise logistical coordination for the transfer and temporary storage of the units within the terminal, reflecting the technical and human capacity that characterizes the port of Arica,” reported the concessionaire of the Port of Arica.

The operation was led by Pablo Véliz, Operations Manager, and Pablo Codoceo, Head of Maritime Operations, along with a team composed of supervisors, crane operators, reach stacker and terminal truck operators, who played a fundamental role both on the dock and on board.

“We face each call with commitment and professionalism. This first service of the Mn. MSC Lome fills us with pride, because it demonstrates the operational maturity of our terminal and the capacity to adapt to the requirements of our clients and the maritime-port industry,” said Pablo Véliz, Operations Manager of TPA.

Under this context, TPA indicated that “the arrival of the Alpaca service opens a new opportunity for the Arica and Parinacota Region, strengthening maritime connectivity with new international markets and expanding logistic routes towards Asia, North America and South America. With this incorporation, TPA reinforces its role as a key link point in the bioceanic corridor, directly benefiting the productive sectors of northern Chile, southern Peru and western Bolivia.”

For his part, Camilo Jobet, general manager of TPA, stated that “this new service reaffirms the strategic value of Arica within the logistic chain of the Andean Macro Region. We will continue working so that our port is a reliable, modern and sustainable platform for our clients and for the development of foreign trade.”

The service of the MSC Lome V was carried out within the planned times and without incidents, “reaffirming Terminal Puerto Arica’s commitment to the operational excellence, safety and sustainability that distinguish its management,” concluded the TPA news release.
