In August, the operational efficiency of China’s major ports remained stable, while the operational efficiency of major ports in Europe, America, and along the routes fluctuated.
In August, China’s container shipping market remained busy, compounded by the impact of typhoons, leading to stable operational efficiency at major Chinese ports. The average time in port and at berth for international container vessels at major Chinese ports were 1.51 days and 0.90 days, respectively, a decrease of 1.3% and an increase of 1.1% month-on-month. This performance is better than the average port and berth stay times (2.24 days, 1.75 days) for container vessels at the other 11 major foreign ports.
The operational efficiency of major ports in Europe and America fluctuated. Among them, the average port stay time for vessels at the Port of Rotterdam in Europe was 2.37 days, an increase of 5.8% month-on-month; the average port stay time for vessels at the Port of Hamburg was 2.63 days, an increase of 8.2% month-on-month. At the major West Coast U.S. port, the Port of Los Angeles, the average port stay time for vessels was 4.13 days, a decrease of 4.2% month-on-month; the average port stay time for vessels at the Port of Long Beach was 4.35 days, a decrease of 2.0% month-on-month.

Note:
Port stay time refers to the total duration from when a vessel arrives at the port’s anchorage area waiting for a berth to when it completes loading and unloading operations, leaves the berth, and departs. This indicator comprehensively reflects the overall efficiency of port facilities and equipment, pilotage, scheduling, loading and unloading, collection and distribution, and customs clearance.
Berth stay time refers to the total duration from when a vessel arrives at the berth for loading and unloading operations to when it completes operations and leaves the berth. This indicator primarily reflects the efficiency of loading and unloading operations during the berthing period.
