Construction has officially begun in China on the Yara Eyde, the world’s first ammonia-powered containership. The project, launched with a steel-cutting ceremony on September 5, is a joint effort by Yara Clean Ammonia, Yara International, CMB.TECH, and North Sea Container Line. Scheduled for delivery in 2026, the vessel will operate between Oslo, Porsgrunn, Bremerhaven, and Rotterdam, and will also feature a 250 kWh battery pack with shore power connectivity. Owned by CMB.TECH’s Delphis and operated by NCL Oslofjord AS, Yara Eyde is seen as a landmark step in maritime decarbonization, with Yara supplying renewable ammonia as fuel.
