Recently, Japan’s Ocean Network Express (ONE) achieved a new milestone in the container shipping sector. Its container ship, the “ONE Innovation,” completed loading 22,233 TEU, setting a new global record for the highest single-vessel container load.
As one of the six 24,000-TEU-class giants under ONE, the “ONE Innovation” has departed from Singapore and is sailing to the Port of Felixstowe, UK, via the FE4 service.
This vessel was delivered in 2023 by the JMU Kure shipyard and is ONE’s first 24,000-TEU-class ultra-large container ship. This 400-meter-long giant has an actual maximum capacity of 24,136 TEU, currently ranking as the largest ship in the ONE fleet.
This achievement surpasses the record set by ONE itself in December 2023—when the “ONE Innovation” loaded 22,000 TEU during a port call in Singapore. Earlier, in November 2023, the “ONE Innovation” had set a historical record with an actual load of 21,954 TEU.
Ocean Network Express was established in 2017 through the integration of the liner businesses of Kawasaki Kisen Kaisha (“K” Line), Mitsui O.S.K. Lines (MOL), and Nippon Yusen Kaisha (NYK Line). The company is currently the world’s sixth-largest container carrier, operating over 272 vessels with a total capacity of approximately 2.09 million TEU.
