At 19:10 on September 21, the night fell, the lights were on, and Lianyungang Port ushered in a “super giant” – the “Yuanshen Sea” ship. The giant ship, loaded with 390,900 tons of iron ore and a draft of 23.14 meters, successfully berthed at berth 87 of Xinsu Port Terminal Company, setting a new record for the largest draft of ships entering Lianyungang Port set by the “Brazil” ship on February 24 this year.
The deeper the draft of the ship, the more difficult it is to berth, and the speed and course need to be strictly controlled when entering the port, and any deviation may bring risks. In order to ensure the safe berthing of the “Yuanshenhai” ship, the production business department of the group, together with Lianyungang Marine, pilot and port barge companies, jointly formulated a detailed berthing plan, and deployed 7 high-horsepower tugs such as “Dongfang No. 1”, “Dongfang 07” and “Dongfang 05” to form an operation formation to escort the giant ship throughout the port. At about 20 o’clock that night, after nearly 5 hours of continuous operation, the “Yuanshen Sea” ship finally berthed smoothly and safely at berth 87.
Up to now, Lianyungang Port has achieved remarkable results in berthing and unloading 400,000 tons of ships, with a total of more than 50 ships, a maximum ship loading and unloading efficiency of 8,464 /hour, and the ship’s draft has gradually jumped from 22.9 meters of the original “Brazilian ore” ship to 23.14 meters today.
In today’s increasingly competitive global shipping industry, super-large ships have gradually become the mainstream of the shipping market with their advantages of low transportation cost and high efficiency. In the next step, Lianyungang Port will continue to improve the terminal loading and unloading capacity, continuously improve the whole chain and intelligent comprehensive service system, and contribute to the strategy of deeply serving the country as a “maritime power”.
