In addition to what was announced by the Port System Authority of Taranto regarding the port’s role in the development of a state-supported offshore wind supply chain, the port authority of Augusta has also confirmed the officialization of its already known appointment.
“We are confident in a rapid allocation of the planned resources, approximately 50 million euros, to begin adapting the infrastructure and be ready in about two or three years with the aim of starting offshore wind activities in the port of Augusta,” stated the president of the Eastern Sicilian Sea Port System Authority (Adsp) Francesco Di Sarcina, during the Offshore Wind Revolution event, confirming the breakdown of the total allocation to cover the requirements of Augusta.
“We arrived at the Augusta decision after a process of reflection and in-depth analysis conducted with both the national government and the regional government, so much so that with the regional president Renato Schifani we agreed on a unified candidacy for Sicily, because Augusta has proven to have – Di Sarcina continued – compared to other Sicilian ports, the greatest aptitudes and spaces to be competitive. On the front of area organization, we have already begun discussions with interested private operators who hold these spaces necessary for the activities and with national entities interested in various capacities in the overall supply chain, and we expect to define the roles of each in parallel with the adaptation of the essential infrastructure,” added Di Sarcina.
For the number one of the Adsp, “Augusta already has all the characteristics needed for the offshore logistics supply chain. We are certain that the assignment of this role, which the government has reserved for us, will stimulate major national and international players to dialogue with us, as indeed we are already noticing, considering that we are often invited abroad to discuss the role of Augusta in the Mediterranean Sea.”
