74 Indian sailors rescued from war torn Mykolaiv Port

Seventy four Indian sailors who were held up in the war torn Mykolaiv port in Ukraine for
the past ten days were rescued on March 7 when the invading Russian forces observed limited ceasefire. The sailors remained inside the ship and were not allowed to enter the port during this period.

The sailors were taken out of the port in two buses

The sailors were taken out of the port in two buses and were taken to the Moldova border about 200 kilometers away. They were taken to the Indian embassy there for safe custody.

The operation became successful after Russia announced a humanitarian corridor in Ukraine

21 of the Indian sailors were hired by Mumbai-based VR Maritime Services and joined Marshall Islands cargo ships stranded at the port since February 24.
Captain Raza Naqvi, a resident of Lucknow, said in a conference call said the situation in Mykolaiv port had completely deteriorated and we could hear the sound of shelling and the full effect was seen in the water on the day they departed from the port.
