Edda Wind held a naming ceremony for the service operation vessel (SOV) Edda Brint on 17 June 2022 at Astilleros Balenciaga Shipyard in Spain

Edda Brint is a purpose-built SOV prepared for emissions-free operations with a hydrogen-based propulsion system (‘Brint’ is Danish for hydrogen).

The vessel is intended for operation on the Seagreen offshore windfarm in the UK, providing accommodation as commissioning and maintenance work on the offshore wind turbines in the windfarm is undertaken.

The SOV is 83 m in length and can accommodate up to 60 people. The vessel is almost complete and is being prepared for sea trials.

Edda Brint is due to be delivered by Balenciaga in August. Following installation of the vessel’s gangway system, Edda Brint will start working for MHI Vestas at Seagreen. The contract for the vessel has a firm period of 15 years, running until 2037.

Another SOV for Edda Wind, Edda Breeze, was delivered by Gondan shipyard earlier in June and another newbuild was launched at the same yard in March 2022, for delivery in Q1 2023. Balenciaga will launch the second SOV it is building for Edda Wind in July 2022, for delivery in Q1 2023.
