Hong Kong’s Jumbo Floating Restaurant capsized on Sunday June 19th during adverse conditions in the South China Sea. The Jumbo restaurant had been an iconic tourist
destination in Hong Kong for decades, but never recovered from the loss of trade caused by the Covid-19 pandemic. Hong Kong has had some of the toughest and longest-lasting isolation rules in the world for visitors and returning residents.
The restaurant was towed away from Hong Kong on June 14th.
The restaurant sank as it passed the Xisha Islands in the South China Sea. Water entered the vessel before it began to tip, owner Aberdeen Restaurant Enterprises Ltd said in a statement. No crew members were injured.
Aberdeen Restaurant said that it was now getting further details of the accident from
the towing company.
