Developer wpd has awarded Siemens Gamesa a conditional contract for the wind turbines for the 927-MW Gennaker offshore wind project

The company has also initiated a tendering process for the other main components for the windfarm and the installation vessels for the project, and initiated soil investigations at each of the locations for the turbines for the windfarm, which is 15 km off the coast of Germany in the Baltic, near the Darß peninsula.

When completed, Gennaker will be the largest offshore windfarm in the Baltic. It is due to be completed by the end of 2026.

wpd chief operating officer Achim Berge Olsen said, “With this turbine, we are relying on proven technology and, in Siemens Gamesa, on a long-standing partner with whom we are now realizing our fifth offshore wind project.”

The Siemens Gamesa wind turbines will have a rotor diameter of 167 m and with ‘PowerBoost’ option engaged will have a capacity of up to 9 MW. Siemens Gamesa has also been conditionally awarded a 20-year service agreement for the turbines.
