Vestas and its contractor Seajacks have installed the first offshore wind turbine at the Akita Noshiro offshore windfarm
The project is Japan’s first commercial-scale offshore project. Thirty-three Vestas V117-4.2MW turbines will be installed in the port areas of Akita and Noshiro.
The turbine was installed by Seajacks’ wind turbine installation vessel Seajacks Zaratan. Seajacks is part of Eneti.
When completed, the windfarm will have a capacity of 139 MW. Work installing the foundations for the wind turbines got underway in April 2021.
The project is being developed by a consortium of companies, Akita Offshore Wind Corp, in which Marubeni is the largest shareholder.
