SES will eventually provide connectivity through its new O3b mPOWER system
SES is to provide connectivity services to the new and existing ships in a leading family cruise line’s fleet.
The service will at first be made available through SES’ O3b Medium Earth Orbit constellation, and will then migrate and expand to the provider’s O3b mPOWER communication system. Connectivity will also be supported by SES’s geostationary satellite fleet and ground-based infrastructure to provide high-bandwidth redundancy and reliability throughout voyages.
The new connectivity provided by SES will enable connected technologies to be introduced onboard, including an augmented reality experience and wearable technology for guests. Passengers will also be able to purchase new ‘Unlimited Internet’ access plans provided by SES’s network.
