Satellites and sensors enable workboat tracking

GOST devices use Orbcomm satellites for vessel tracking and security (source: GOST)

Global Ocean Security Technologies (GOST) has agreed to use Orbcomm’s satellite terminals and connectivity to provide security services to owners and operators of commercial and leisure vessels

These incorporate sensors and devices enabling owners to track vessels, deter theft and piracy, and recover assets if they are stolen.

GOST’s systems provide real-time satellite tracking and end-to-end support, with alerts to report location data to owners and authorities if vessels are stolen while in harbour or at sea.

Its Specter platform works with Orbcomm’s ST 6100 global satellite device to notify designated parties by text and email of any detected events, including unexpected changes in a vessel’s geo-location.

“We did a thorough market search to find a high-performance satellite tracking device to power our enhanced security and location-based services for maritime fleets,” said GOST chief technology officer Brian Kane.

“With Orbcomm technology and our new, streamlined vessel tracking interface, owners and operators have access to reliable, user-friendly systems.”

Orbcomm’s constellation of geostationary satellites enables vessels and assets, such as containers to be tracked, using security devices and through the established automatic identification system.

“Our next-generation satellite technology is an integral component in GOST’s vessel tracking and safety systems, to ensure optimal reliability, global coverage and longevity for its owners of assets at sea, in a harbour or docked at a marina,” said Orbcomm executive vice president of global sales Christian Allred.

“The two-way satellite terminals enable GOST’s clients to monitor and manage their vessels from anywhere in the world, providing the peace of mind their investments are safe and protected around the clock.”
