FSRUs, safety central themes of new LNG Shipping & Terminals Conference

Must read

With a major paradigm shift underway in global energy, international industry professionals will gather to discuss how LNG will help meet growing energy security safely at the LNG Shipping & Terminals Conference, Europe, in London, 16-17 November 2022

Centred on the theme ‘Safety and interface compatibility for the paradigm shift’, the LNG Shipping & Terminals Conference, Europe will have a series of highly focused sessions featuring prominent keynote speakers, individual presentations and panel discussions. Influential LNG industry experts will provide real-world insight, sharing lessons learned and practical hands-on experience.

Produced by Riviera Maritime Media and LNG Shipping & Terminals magazine, the LNG Shipping & Terminals Conference, Europe is underpinned by the participation and support of platinum sponsor Trelleborg, gold level sponsorships of the Liberian International Shipping & Corporate Registry, The Marshall Islands Registry and Samson Ropes, and INTERTANKO as a supporting organisation.

Safety at its core

Building on the Riviera-produced LNG /Shore Interface events of years past, the LNG Shipping & Terminals Conference, Europe retains at its core safety. This will be a common thread throughout the conference, and in particular, in addressing the development of new receiving terminals in Europe using floating storage and regasification units (FSRUs).

With Europe looking for new sources of natural gas following the outbreak of the Russia-Ukraine war, securing LNG has become critical for the continent. This has led to a rush to invest in and commission new LNG import capacity using FSRUs.

This unprecedented fast-tracking of major projects is also fuelling widespread concern among LNG professionals about the potential for a safety incident that could affect the future of the entire industry.

And, of course, the ultimate concern is how the LNG industry can achieve the required speed of delivery without compromising safety.

New safety and environmental rules

LNG shipowners, managers and operators are also preparing for the implementation of a new SIRE 2.0 inspection regime and IMO’s Energy Efficiency for Existing Ships Index (EEXI) and Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII) emissions regulations. As the implementation of these new ship vetting and energy efficiency rules approach, November will be an ideal time for shipowners, operators and managers to share approaches to compliance. And, looking ahead to the green transition, the LNG industry also needs to consider how it can future-proof new infrastructure for compatibility with low- and zero-carbon marine fuels.

The programme for the LNG Shipping and Terminals Conference, Europe will feature the technical decision making behind the new FSRU and terminal projects, sharing experiences within the LNG community to streamline implementation without sacrificing time, money and safety. It will also bring together technical and operational experts to address the new regulatory challenges.

Networking will be maximised at the event, with social breaks including coffee breaks, luncheons and a drinks reception offering delegates ample opportunity to discuss, debate and exchange ideas. Delegates will gain access to new and experienced professionals from throughout the LNG shipping and terminals ecosystem, including vessel and terminal owners and operators, molecule suppliers, EPC contractors, solution providers, NGOs and government, to define the roadmap for the successful delivery of the LNG infrastructure of the future.
