At 14:00 hours local time today (23 August) Severe Tropical Storm Ma-on was about 920lm east-southeast of Hong Kong, positioned at 17.9 N, 121.6 E, with maximum sustained wind near its centre of 90 km/h.
Ma-on will move across the vicinity of the northern part of Luzon and Luzon Strait during the day today. It will then enter the northeastern part of the South China Sea and move northwestwards, edging closer to the coast of Guangdong.
