Haiti – civil unrest affecting port operations *update*

North of England Club has reported that local correspondents E&M International Consulting had advised that the combined effect of political instability, the fuel shortage, the increase in criminal activities and the /economic crisis had led to further protests in Haiti.

The protests had turn violent, resulting in the cessation of operations among various public and private services, including banks and embassies.

Ports were reported to be working, although with limited staff, and operations had slowed.

The Port-au-Prince container terminal remained operational, However, no land-based movements were taking place in or out of the port. Therefore, the terminal capacity could be challenged if the unrest continued.

Vessels calling at Haiti were advised to be extremely vigilant and to maintain necessary security in line with ISPS requirements. Crew should remain on board.
