Albanians open call for 12.9MW floating solar plant

Must read

Solar Energy of Albania (SENA), a subsidiary of state-owned power utility Korporata Elektroenergjitike Shqiptare (KESH), has launched a tender for the development of a 12.9MW floating solar plant in Albania.

The selected party will be in charge of the design, build and operation of the project set to be located on the Vau i Dejes HPP lake.

The tender was launched through the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) platform.

SENA intends to use part of the proceeds of a loan /grant administered by EBRD towards the cost of the contract(s).

The deadline for submitting applications for the tender is 22 December by 16:00 local time.

SENA was formed with a €9.1 million loan from EBRD, delivered in 2021, to construct the project on the Vau i Dejes hydropower plant reservoir, which is managed by KESH.

Structured as a project finance loan and provided on a commercial basis, the EBRD loan is said to be the first such financing by an international financial institution and is set to contribute to the commercialization of KESH, one of Albania’s biggest state-owned utilities.

To remind, Albania’s first floating solar plant started commercial operations in June 2021.

Statkraft and Ocean Sun developed the project at the Banja reservoir, where Statkraft is operating its 72MW Banja hydropower plant.
