Antonov Airlines is continuing to fly the skies transporting oversized cargo across the globe. The company has recently been hired to move a 90-tonne heat exchanger on a short notice.
Antonov Airlines was tagged by DHL Global Forwarding to transport the heat exchanger and additional accessories on board its AN-124-150 aircraft from Italy to Saudi Arabia. The weight of the cargo including the heat exchanger and accessories reached 105 tonnes.
“The external cranes in conjunction with the onboard winch of the AN-124-100 were used to load and unload the HP Steam Superheater on the stand specially designed and manufactured for air transporting, as well as special loading equipment designed and manufactured by Antonov’s in-house engineers,” said Olha Danylova, Commercial Executive, Antonov Airlines.
The delivery to Saudi Arabia follows a recent transport of an oversized aircraft engine, together with critical tooling Luxembourg to Lajes, Portugal, a remote island in the Azores, onboard one of AN-124-100M aircraft.
