Petrobras will build two more FPSOs at Singapore’s Seatrium Shipyard
Brazil’s national oil company Petrobras has awarded Singapore shipyard Seatrium Ltd a tender to build two floating production storage and offloading vessel (FPSO) platforms
FPSO platforms P-84 and P-85will be deployed in the Atapu and Sépia fields, located in the eastern part of the prolific Santos Basin, about 200 km offshore Rio de Janeiro.
P-84and P-85 are part of Petrobras’ new generation of FPSO platforms, with a high production capacity of 225,000 barrels of oil per day and gas processing capacity of 10 million cubic meters per day.
Both FPSOs will incorporate advanced technologies such as no routine flaring and venting, variable speed drives and measures to control emissions and capture CO2, including an all-electric concept, which focuses on efficient power generation and increased energy efficiency to achieve a 30% reduction in greenhouse gas emissions intensity.
Construction on both units will commence Q1 2025 with final delivery expected in 2029. The contracts are valued at approximately S$11.0Bn (US$8.1Bn).
The FPSO platforms will receive operations and engineering support from across different yards globally. Seatrium’s facilities across Brazil, China and Singapore will manufacture the modules, with the outsourced hull and accommodation transported to Singapore for topside module integration and commissioning.
After successful integration and commissioning in Singapore, the FPSO platforms will be towed to the Atapu and Sépia fields for offshore commissioning.
Petrobras serves as consortium operator for Atapu (65.7%) and Sepia (55.3%) consortia.
Seatrium chief executive Chris Ong said, “We are honoured to be selected by Petrobras through a rigorous tender process to supply theP-84 and P-85 FPSO vessels, solidifying our position as the preferred partner for transformative projects.”
The yard has managed the conversion and upgrade of several major oil and gas projects including converting Golar Hilli, the world’s first floating liquefaction vessel. The group has delivered a number of significant projects for Brazil, including FPSOs, and its current orderbook includes four other Petrobras FPSO newbuilds, P-78, P-80, P-82 and P-83.
Over the next two years, the Singapore shipbuilder will undertake refits on a series of Hyundai LNG carriers with responsibilities in joint planning, information and experience sharing with Hyundai LNG Shipping.
