The French shipyard, Chantiers de la Antique in Saint Nazaire, handed over the CELEBRITY BEYOND to Celebrity Cruises at a Ceremony held in southern France. This ceremony was the first to be held at the shipyard since the Covid 19 pandemic. This vessel is the largest cruise ship in Celebrity Cruises’ fleet.
CELEBRITY BEYOND is the third vessel in the Edge class, which was introduced in 2018 and built upon the design of its predecessors. The new ship is about 8% larger than the earlier models. It has an overall length of 1,073 feet and a weight of 140,000 gross tons. The passenger capacity has been increased by about 13% to 3,260 compared to other ships in the Edge class. Around 1,400 crew members will staff the ship. There are 17 passenger decks, a two-story outdoor deck, and an outdoor bar. There is also celebrity chef Daniel Boulud’s first-ever restaurant at sea aboard the vessel.
The vessel’s command was assumed by the line’s first female captain and the first woman to command a cruise vessel from the United States; Kate McCue. The ship is set to depart on its maiden voyage on April 27th from Southampton, and the itinerary includes visiting Bordeaux, Lisbon, Cadiz, Malaga, Palma de Mallorca, and Barcelona.
