US Forces Strike Over 800 Houthi Targets In Yemen, Attacks Drop By 69%

Must read

The US forces have carried out more than 800 airstrikes against Houthi targets in Yemen since March 15, under an ongoing campaign named Operation Rough Rider, according to US Central Command (CENTCOM).

The mission aims to restore freedom of navigation in the Red Sea.

CENTCOM reported that these strikes have killed hundreds of Houthi fighters and several key leaders, including top figures involved in missile and drone operations.

The strikes were based on precise and thorough intelligence to ensure strong impact while minimising risk to civilians.

So far, the operation has destroyed many vital Houthi assets such as command centers, air defense systems, advanced weapons manufacturing units, and storage sites.

These storage locations held anti-ship ballistic missiles, cruise missiles, uncrewed aerial systems, and drone boats- many of which have been used in attacks on international shipping.

One of the major achievements of the operation has been the destruction of the Ras Isa Port, a critical fuel facility run by the Houthis. This port was not only essential for their military operations but also generated significant revenue for their activities.

CENTCOM stated that shutting down this port will affect the Houthis’ ability to sustain attacks and fund their operations.

While Houthi forces have continued their attempts to target US Navy warships and disrupt shipping routes, CENTCOM stated that the ongoing airstrikes have reduced the frequency and effectiveness of these attacks.

According to recent data, ballistic missile launches have fallen by 69% and attacks using one way drones have dropped by 55%.

Despite this, CENTCOM believes the Houthis still maintain the ability to conduct operations, which indicates that they continue to receive support from Iran.

The command stated that the Houthis could not sustain these attacks without backing from the Iranian government.

The operation is being carried out by a large and well-coordinated US force. Two carrier strike groups – the Harry S. Truman and Carl Vinson- are currently deployed in the region.

The campaign is also supported by B-2 strategic bombers flying from Deigo Garcia.

CENTCOM said that details about the past and future operations will not be publicly shared due to security concerns.

It was also said that in the early stages of the campaign, sensitive information like launch times and target plans was accidentally shared with a reporter, which raised serious concerns over operational leaks.

Despite this, CENTCOM said it is focused and deliberate in its operations and will continue to intensify the pressure on the Houthis as long as they threaten maritime security.
