TotalEnergies reports that it has adopted machine-learning route optimisation technology from LR OneOcean to improve fuel efficiency and reduce emissions across its chartered fleet.

The system combines LR OneOcean’s platform with input from its Vessel Operations team, using high-frequency vessel data and noon reports to build fuel consumption models.

Initial trials of the system delivered savings of 725 metric tonnes of fuel and 2,256 metric tonnes of CO₂ emissions, LR OneOcean said.

“This technology, combined with 24/7 advisory support, immediately and sustainably reduces fuel consumption and emissions, minimising the environmental footprint of our shipping activities,” said Sebastien Roche, General Manager Shipping Performance and Innovation of TotalEnergies.
