Maxar Intelligence has launched a new maritime monitoring system, Maritime Sentry, designed to support real-time tracking of vessel activity across large ocean areas and in port using AI-powered analytics and high-resolution satellite imagery.

Part of the wider Sentry system architecture, Maritime Sentry leverages Maxar’s 250-petabyte archive of satellite data and integrates data from multiple satellite constellations, including both electro-optical and synthetic aperture radar (SAR) sources.

The technology supports the monitoring of thousands of square kilometres of ocean simultaneously, with analytics tools used to identify signals relevant to potential threats or defined activity parameters.

Tasking software is available to automate satellite scheduling across different platforms, along with data fusion tools to co-register sensor outputs and prepare imagery for analysis. Analytics results can be delivered via Maxar’s user interface or directly into user systems via API.

“For the first time, Sentry makes it possible to use the full potential of space to deliver predictive intelligence at global scale,” said Dan Smoot, CEO of Maxar Intelligence.

“Sentry uses AI and ML to drive automation across the entire sensor-to-decision system, unlocking sensor integration at a scale that hasn’t been done before.”
