Port of Corpus Christi sets record tonnage in Q2 2025

Must read

Port of Corpus Christi customers moved 51.1 million tonnes of commodities through the Corpus Christi Ship Channel in the second quarter of 2025, setting a new record for the period.

This surpassed the previous second-quarter record of 50.6 million tonnes set in 2024.

The first half of 2025 also marked the best in the port’s history, with 102.4 million tonnes of commodities moved. This outpaced the 99.5 million tonnes handled in the first half of 2024.

Crude oil shipments in H1 2025 totalled 65.2 million tonnes, an increase of 3.8 per cent over the same period last year.

LNG volumes grew by 10.8 per cent to 8.5 million tonnes. Additional gains were recorded in dry bulk, breakbulk, and other bulk liquids.

Kent Britton, Chief Executive Officer for the Port of Corpus Christi, said: “We are proud to support a community of customers who continue to rise to the demands of the evolving global market.

“The Corpus Christi Ship Channel Improvement Project established this Port as the number one port for crude oil exports, and we remain committed to providing our customers access to the infrastructure needed to ensure continued economic growth.”

The newly expanded waterway improves the efficiency of transporting crude oil, liquefied natural gas, and other commodities.

Project deepened channel to 54ft, widened to 530ft, added barge shelves across Corpus Christi Bay. Annual transportation cost savings are estimated to exceed $200 million.

Last month, the Port of Corpus Christi hosted federal, state, and local leaders to celebrate the upcoming completion of its channel expansion project.
