On July 17, reporters learned from Cangzhou Port Group Co., Ltd. that in the first half of this year, Cangzhou Huanghua Port achieved a cargo throughput exceeding 179 million tons, setting a new historical record compared to the same period in previous years. It is reported that Huanghua Port handled a total cargo throughput of 355 million tons in 2024.

What contributed to this new high in cargo throughput at Huanghua Port? According to Li Yunhua, Assistant General Manager of Cangzhou Port Group Co., Ltd., this achievement stems from Cangzhou City’s years of continuous efforts to strengthen port capacity building, innovate operational management models, and implement practical measures to build a multifunctional, comprehensive, and modern port.

Huanghua Port is a crucial hub for China’s coal transportation from west to east and north to south. On July 15, a train carrying 8,640 tons of coal from Ordos City, Inner Mongolia, arrived at the coal unloading facility in Huanghua Port’s coal terminal area. To ensure stable energy supply during peak summer demand, the coal terminal area has continuously improved the efficiency of its production dispatch command platform, scientifically planned loading schedules for incoming cargo ships, and enhanced overall port operations. In the first half of the year, the average load per vessel in the coal terminal area reached 48,100 tons, a record high and a 4.9% increase year-on-year.

While ensuring coal transportation, Huanghua Port has also expanded its international trade capabilities. Since last year, Cangzhou City has intensified innovation in operational management models, collaborating with ports such as Ningbo-Zhoushan Port, Singapore Port, and Dubai Port. Additionally, 17 inland ports have been established along the Hanhuang, Shuohuang, and Tai-Zhong-Yin railway lines. The number of domestic and international container shipping routes has expanded to 19, facilitating trade with over 200 ports in more than 50 countries and regions worldwide.

Strengthening port capacity building remains a key factor in boosting Huanghua Port’s throughput. This year, Huanghua Port has optimized its functional layout, enhanced infrastructure, and improved its transport and logistics systems. In the first half of the year, the ship fuel oil terminal project in the comprehensive port area and the automation upgrade of Berths 1 and 2 in the multipurpose terminal passed final acceptance. Meanwhile, major projects such as the 9th and 10th general-purpose berths, the ro-ro terminal, and the 300,000-ton crude oil terminal in the bulk cargo port area—with a total investment of 14.825 billion yuan—are progressing rapidly. Construction has also begun on the belt conveyor project for Huanghua Port’s bulk cargo logistics park.

“We will accelerate the construction of 21 terminal projects, including container, ro-ro, crude oil, and LNG terminals, and implement the 200,000-ton channel upgrade in the comprehensive and bulk cargo port areas. We will continue to enhance port logistics, trade, and other functions to build a multifunctional, comprehensive, and modern port,” said Li Yunhua.
