Planned consolidation and repair of the infrastructure to enhance its potential for commercial maritime traffic

Ancona – The Central Adriatic Sea Port System Authority has awarded the contract for the structural upgrade of Pier 23 in the port of Ancona. A consolidation and repair intervention will be carried out on the infrastructure to improve its potential for commercial maritime traffic.

The works, with an awarded amount of nearly €12 million, will be executed by the temporary consortium of companies comprising Fincantieri Infrastructure Opere Marittime, Fincosit, Impresa costruzioni Mentucci Aldo, and Eurobuilding. The estimated duration of the works is 540 days.

Pier 23 will be equipped with electrification provisions and will be part of the port basin dredging project, which involves the commercial dock with a total investment of €18.7 million. The Port System Authority has recently published the tender for this project. In preparation for the consolidation of Pier 23, the existing portainer cranes, Badoni and Paceco, no longer in use, have been demolished.

The renovation of Pier 23 is part of the modernization project for the infrastructure of the Doric port, which the Port System Authority is advancing. This initiative has included the revival of Pier 22, the ongoing construction of Pier 27, the new pavement for Piers 19-20-21, and the renewal of Pier 13, already back in operation.

“We are investing in the continuous renewal of port infrastructure,” says Vincenzo Garofalo, President of the Port System Authority, “a process to enhance the potential of the port of Ancona, to adapt to changes in the international market by attracting new maritime traffic and creating new development opportunities for the blue economy and the region.”
