After the Spanish ports of Malaga and Algeciras, the Swiss company Axpo has also debuted in Portugal in supplying LNG to ships. More specifically, a ship-to-ship refueling of 2,700 cubic meters of liquefied natural gas was completed in the port of Sines for the container ship MSC Togo, using a barge from Avenir LNG.
The news was announced through various LinkedIn posts by several key players in this operation, including Daniele Corti (Head of Small Scale LNG at Axpo Solutions AG) and Edoardo De Vincentiis (Head of Bunker Procurement at MSC).
While awaiting clarity on whether and how the project to create a small-scale LNG facility in the port of Naples (both truck-to-ship and ship-to-ship) will evolve, Axpo is advancing a development plan through these tests in the Iberian Peninsula. In the coming months, this plan will also involve the delivery of the new bunker tanker Green Pearl, whose hull was built in Turkey while the installation of its systems is nearing completion at the San Giorgio del Porto shipyard in Genoa. Delivery is expected by autumn, and the vessel will have a capacity of 7,500 cubic meters of LNG for both ship-to-ship and ship-to-truck refueling.
