The mayor of Castellón, Begoña Carrasco; the president of the Port Authority, Rubén Ibáñez; the director of the CaixaBank All in One center, Anna Chiva; the territorial head of the “la Caixa” Foundation in the Valencian Community, Soraya Casado; and the exhibition advisor Alexandra Laudo presented the exhibition ‘Colors of the World’ at the Muelle de Costa (Casino), which showcases the vast variety of landscapes on our planet and the colors that characterize them. Also in attendance were the deputy mayor of Grao, Ester Giner, and the councilor for Culture, María España.
Through 42 snapshots by National Geographic photographers, the exhibition organized by the “la Caixa” Foundation, in collaboration with the Port Authority and the Castelló de la Plana City Council, invites reflection on color—an element that surrounds us at all times and is capable of impacting how we feel, energizing us, relaxing us, or moving us. To ensure we don’t overlook all its tones and nuances, this exhibition makes them the absolute protagonists. It can be visited for free at the Moll de Costa until September 3.
In her speech, Mayor Begoña Carrasco emphasized: “We are very grateful to La Caixa and the always positive disposition of the Port Authority for bringing exhibitions that travel to major Spanish cities. This exhibition is the cherry on top of a cake—a cake from which we will distribute 600 slices in the form of cultural, sports, or leisure activities, all of them free.”
Summer cultural programming
She added: “This is what Castellón, Grao, and the thousands of visitors and residents on vacation deserve. A high-quality program for all audiences and for families to enjoy, starting now with this exhibition, the Sol Market, the tourist train, and from this Thursday with the SOM Festival, reinforcing public-private collaboration and institutional cooperation that makes the city look to the sea again and ensures that things are happening in Grao now.”
For his part, the president of the Port Authority, Rubén Ibáñez, thanked the “la Caixa” Foundation for betting on “docking once again with this exhibition in the port of Castellón” and the City Council “for enhancing the maritime façade with these privileged views where the port once again becomes a container of culture.”
Likewise, Ibáñez has invited the public to visit the exhibition, which demonstrates that “Castellón is here, the port is here, and the citizens of Castellón are increasingly nourished by institutions in the cultural sphere.”
In the awe-inspiring photographs of the misty blues of morning light, the vivid purples and reds of sunset, the intense greens of the fields, or the golden hues of autumn leaves, visitors will find an inspiring reflection on the meaning of colors, their qualities, and their symbolism throughout history.
**Prestigious Photographers**
Guided by renowned National Geographic photographers—including multi-award winners Joel Sartore, Steve McCurry, Michael Nichols, Lynn Johnson, Jodi Cobb, Paul Nicklen, and Frans Lanting—the exhibition explores the connotations of colors in cultures around the world through a wide spectrum of yellows, oranges, reds, violets, blues, greens, and whites.
This exhibition is part of the ‘Art on the Street’ program, through which the ”la Caixa” Foundation aims to turn Castelló de la Plana into an open-air museum. Outreach is a fundamental tool for fostering personal growth. For this reason, through these exhibitions, the organization seeks to bring culture and science closer to all audiences.
The exhibition dedicates a section to each of the seven selected colors and, through six photos per section along with brief introductory texts, unpacks some considerations about the significance of these colors in the world.
