Greece has eleven (11) geographically distributed Merchant Marine Academies (A.E.N.), which provide training in the specialties of Captains and Engineers. Many candidates and their families wonder what the selection process is and how they will be informed about their school of attendance.
Who determines the school of attendance for the candidates?
The selection and determination of the priority order of the candidates—both of the General and the Special Categories—are carried out by the Ministry of Education, Religious Affairs, and Sports. After the announcement of the Panhellenic Examination results, the Ministry sends the lists of successful candidates (in print and electronic form) to the Ministry of Shipping and Island Policy (Υ.ΝΑ.Ν.Π.).
The distribution of successful candidates to the respective schools (A.E.N. Captains or Engineers) is done by the Υ.ΝΑ.Ν.Π./Α.Λ.Σ.-ΕΛ.ΑΚΤ./Δ.ΕΚ.Ν. Β’, taking into account:
What is the basic prerequisite for participation in the process?
Candidates must have been deemed medically fit based on the preliminary examinations, as defined by the relevant legislation for the A.E.N. Schools.
Where and how are the results announced?
The results are published:
By posting on the notice boards at the offices of the Υ.ΝΑ.Ν.Π. in Piraeus (Akti Vasileiadi, Gate E1-E2 and Gr. Lambraki 150).

The results are accompanied by an official press release, and the notification of candidates is solely their own responsibility.
What happens after the announcement of the results?
The lists of successful candidates are sent to the respective Academies. Successful candidates are required to proceed with registration within ten (10) working days from the day following the announcement of the results. In case of untimely registration, the candidate loses their position.
According to information from DEKN, the final lists of successful candidates are expected to be announced within the first 15 days of August 2025.
