Sanfu Shipbuilding commences construction of first 500TEU container ship

Must read

At 10:18 AM on August 4th, Sanfu Shipbuilding held the steel-cutting ceremony for the first 500TEU container ship (Hull No.: SF240311) built for an Indian shipowner in the steel processing workshop. Representatives from the shipowner, Korean Register of Shipping (KR), and Sanfu Shipbuilding attended the ceremony.

The vessel has an overall length of 116.00 meters, a length between perpendiculars of 107.50 meters, a beam of 20.00 meters, a depth of 11.00 meters, a design draft of 7.00 meters, a structural draft of 7.50 meters, and a speed of approximately 13.2 knots. It is classed by KR.

The vessel’s detailed design was completed by the Korean design company KMSEMEC. Considering the general lack of port terminal facilities (especially cranes) along its route, the ship is equipped with two 40-ton cranes featuring an unequal-height design to optimize operational visibility. It has a total of five cargo holds with a standard container capacity of 514TEU. For power configuration, in addition to the standard three generators, the vessel innovatively includes a 600KW shaft generator (Shaft Gen). During normal navigation, the ship can meet all its power demands solely with the shaft generator, significantly reducing fuel consumption, operational costs, and emissions. Furthermore, the new vessel is classed by KR with a methanol fuel option reserved, facilitating future green retrofitting.

The successful commencement of the first 500TEU container ship marks a solid step for Sanfu Shipbuilding in the specialized container ship market characterized by “small load capacity, high efficiency, and stringent environmental requirements,” further enhancing its competitiveness in the international market.
