The French giant invests $34 million in two vessels and expands charters with South Korean shipowner Sinokor
Marseille – CMA CGM has purchased two 1,345 TEU feeder vessels, the Atlantic West and the Atlantic Silver (both from 2008), from South Korean shipowner Sinokor for $17 million each. The ships, already in service for the French company under expiring contracts, will permanently join the fleet, which has already seen over 20 acquisitions in 2025. According to market estimates, their current charter value would exceed $21,000 per day, compared to previous rates of $16,500 and $17,500.
The company, second in the world for secondhand vessel purchases in 2025 after MSC, has also signed new charters with Sinokor for three feeders: Atlantic Geneva (1,118 TEU, 2007), Atlantic North (1,121 TEU, 2002), and Atlantic Monaco (1,022 TEU, 2008), all for 12 months at around $17,000 per day, over 10% higher than the previous year.
These are in addition to other fixed-rate charters: the Medkon Sun (950 TEU, 2007) for six months at $12,500 per day and the Hansa Rotenburg (1,740 TEU, 2009) for one year at around $25,000 per day.
Beyond the secondhand market, CMA CGM, led by Chairman Rodolphe Saadé (pictured), is also focusing on renewing its feeder fleet in the newbuild segment, with long-term contracts already tied to a dozen 1,800 TEU units under construction at Fujian Mawei Shipbuilding and LNG-ready vessels ordered by Evangelos Marinakis’ Capital Maritime & Trading at HD Hyundai Mipo.
