Denmark’s largest container port is doing really well. In July, the number of containers handled at the quay in Aarhus Port set a new record with 86,835 TEU, an increase of 45 percent compared to the same period last year.

This is the highest number of containers ever handled at the port in Aarhus, where over 70 percent of all containers in Denmark pass through.

“We are pleased that the trend of significant growth in cargo turnover continues. Our already strong route network has been expanded with new routes and ships, while the geopolitical situation is directing more containers to Aarhus, and we increasingly see Aarhus as an important hub for container cargo to the rest of Europe,” says port director Thomas Haber Borch.

The strong numbers follow an already busy first six months of 2025, where container traffic overall has grown by over 13 percent compared to last year.

“The large volumes of cargo place high demands on the terminal operator, the companies at the port, and our employees. It further strains our facilities, but with a collective effort, we can deliver tower-high efficiency and competitive operations that support Danish business and supply security,” says Thomas Haber Borch.

In July, a total of 53 container ships called at the port in Aarhus. This is 32 percent more container ships compared to July last year.
