Ponza – A breakdown on the ship Msc World Europa approximately 8 nautical miles off the island of Ponza: the problem, according to what was reported by the Coast Guard, occurred this morning at 7:30 when the cruise ship, sailing from Genoa to Naples with 8,585 people on board (6,496 passengers and 2,089 crew members), communicated that it had encountered an electrical problem with the engines. The situation on board, says the Coast Guard, is calm: sea weather conditions are favorable and essential services for passengers continue to be ensured by the onboard generators. Two tugboats have already departed – from the ports of Gioia Tauro and Naples respectively – to assist the cruise ship and subsequently escort it safely to the port of Naples.
