FarSounder has introduced a new web application that brings its 3D Forward Looking Sonar technology to tablets and laptops. The platform integrates sonar data with navigation tools, giving mariners greater flexibility and safety on board.

FarSounder, a company known for its 3D Forward Looking Sonar (FLS) systems, has released a new web application designed to enhance navigation and safety at sea. The app delivers an updated user experience that allows vessel operators to access real-time sonar data from a wider range of devices.

The application is currently compatible with tablets and laptops. It also has plans to expand support to multi-function displays. This flexibility means that captains and officers can view the advanced 3D sonar display whether they are on deck or at the helm; they are no longer limited to a single fixed workstation.

The new interface brings together multiple navigation tools into a single view. Sonar data is integrated with chart and aerial imagery layers as well as AIS and ARPA targets, creating what the company describes as a comprehensive and interactive navigation environment. By combining these data sources, mariners are given clearer situational awareness to help them operate safely in challenging waters.

“Mariners need more than just accurate data. They need that data to be accessible, intuitive, and actionable, and ideally from anywhere,” said Matthew Zimmerman, CEO of FarSounder. “Our new web app and easy-to-understand UI deliver on that promise, giving vessel operators a level of flexibility and safety they’ve never had before.”

The system is built around the FarSounder Argos 3D Forward Looking Sonar, which provides real-time underwater awareness up to 1,000 meters ahead of a vessel. This capability helps crews detect hazards early and make informed navigation decisions, particularly in areas with limited chart data or in poorly surveyed waters.

“I was lucky to have the opportunity to use FarSounder’s Argos Forward Looking Sonar for the first time recently. We were taking the ship in the ice-rich waters off Greenland. Having the Argos system installed proved to be a game-changer in safety. I was also very impressed with the level of service provided by The Farsounder Team. They were quick to provide me with the documentation I needed and answered all my questions. Their help made my first go at using the system easy,” Capt. Clive Shute, Ice Pilot.

FarSounder has long promoted the use of forward-looking sonar as a way to improve safety, reduce risk, and support efficient operations. With the new web app, the company is expanding access to its technology in a way that fits the changing needs of modern vessel operations, where digital integration and mobility are increasingly important.

By combining sonar insight with existing navigation tools in a single, flexible platform, FarSounder aims to set a new standard for how operators interact with critical data at sea. The release reflects growing demand across the maritime industry for solutions that improve safety while reducing operational constraints.
