Must read

With the vertical integration of its activities in mind, the colossus POSCO Group appears to be considering its entry into the shipping business.

Specifically, POSCO is considering the acquisition of HMM, South Korea’s largest shipping company, whose capitalization touches $16.6 billion. Currently, POSCO is evaluating the business feasibility of a potential acquisition, including possible collaborations between its subsidiaries and HMM, which could reduce the group’s supply chain costs.

It is recalled that the core business unit of the POSCO Group is POSCO Steel, which is active in steel production, while secondarily the group maintains a significant presence in battery production.

Finally, it is worth noting that the main shareholders of HMM are Korea Development Bank (36.02%) and Korea Ocean Business Corporation (35.67%).
