With the acquisition of 1.7 million euros in European funding, the port of Trieste strengthens its position in the maritime sector. The Eastern Adriatic Sea Port System Authority has secured resources for two strategic initiatives, Verkko and Presport, which aim to modernize port infrastructure with digital technologies and more sustainable practices.

With these new resources, the Authority, explains a note from the body, reaches a total of 10 active European projects, exceeding a total budget of 5 million euros; a result that underscores the ability of the Giuliano port to intercept and win European funding in the field of innovation.

The Verkko project, co-financed by the Connecting Europe Facility program, focuses on optimizing operational processes and will implement advanced digital solutions dedicated to managing exceptional transport and streamlining port gate access procedures. The main objective is to make logistics operations faster and more efficient. The Presport project, supported by the Interreg Italy-Croatia program, represents a comprehensive package of actions ranging from the design and installation of cold ironing infrastructure, to the replacement of lighthouse towers with LED technology; from the design of enhanced video surveillance, to the adoption of a digital platform for the circular economy.

According to the Authority’s sub-commissioner, Pierpaolo Danieli, “These projects confirm the ability of the ports of Trieste and Monfalcone to attract European funding and transform it into concrete actions for competitiveness and development. With Verkko we aim to improve the fluidity of exceptional traffic, while with Presport we accelerate on the front of decarbonization, digitalization and safety of the Adriatic ports. It is a further push towards the port of the future, increasingly innovative and sustainable.”
