Louis Dreyfus Armateurs (LDA) has confirmed the launch of the first crew transfer vessel to have been designed and built in France

Designed by Mauric and built by French yard OCEA, the CTV is intended for operation on the Saint-Nazaire offshore windfarm. It was launched 28 April 2022 and will be operated by LD Tide, a joint venture between Louis Dreyfus Armateurs and UK-based Tidal Transit. The vessel is the first of two for the offshore windfarm.

The vessels are equipped with batteries, which allows them to operate in hybrid mode, and have a foil to reduce fuel consumption and emissions. They will operate under the French flag and will be used to transfer up to 24 windfarm technicians to the windfarm. The windfarm technicians will service 80 GE Haliade 150-6MW turbines used on the project.

The vessels are 26.7 m in length with a breadth of 9.4 m and draft of 1.8 m. They will have a crew of three, service speed of in excess of 25 knots and cargo capacity of 10 tonnes. They will meet IMO Tier III requirements and have a semi-swath hull shape for enhanced seakeeping and will be able to transfer technicians in a significant wave height of Hs 2 m. The vessels are of aluminium construction and will also be fitted with a shore power connection.

The Offshore Wind Journal Conference will be held 14 June 2022. Details and tickets can be found here
