The issue of the navigability of the Tiber and the connection with the port of Fiumicino is “an interesting project that has been in the works for a long time, but which involves so many different authorities that we find ourselves in a situation where either all the parties involved do what falls under their competence – even taking a step back to take two steps forward together – to achieve the project’s objectives, or we will remain at the starting point.” This was stated by the extraordinary commissioner of the Autorità di Sistema Portuale del Mar Tirreno Centro Settentrionale, Raffaele Latrofa, speaking at the round table organized by the Propeller Club Port of Roma and the Rettoria di San Gregorio Nazianzeno entitled “Jubilee 2025: Rome and Fiumicino between Ten-T Networks and navigability of the Tiber”, which took place at the Camera dei Deputati.

On this occasion, Latrofa emphasized how the Autorità di Sistema Portuale is “present on a real project, one where there is unity of intent,” recalling that the Authority “has already demonstrated its concrete nature by fulfilling the requirement related to the construction of the commercial port of Fiumicino, preparing the study that had been requested of us.”

Regarding the navigability of the Tiber, the commissioner specified that “the AdSP has competence only on the starting stretch, playing a rather marginal role at a table where we participate constructively but where everyone must express themselves positively on the project, then acting accordingly, each for their own responsibilities.”

Latrofa’s speech confirmed the Port Authority’s willingness to continue “a shared and operational work, an indispensable condition for transforming a strategic idea into an infrastructure capable of connecting the port, the city, and the river, also in view of the objectives of the Jubilee 2025, which is nearing its conclusion, and the development of the Ten-T network.”
