Project to connect Chacabuco viaduct with Bicentenario bridge in Concepción advances with installation of final beams

Must read

The Dirección de Vialidad will begin the process of installing the final beams to connect the Chacabuco viaduct with the Bicentenario bridge, in Concepción, Región del Bio Bio.

The task will be carried out during nighttime hours and will place the missing structures over Avenida Padre Hurtado, allowing the crossing over the railway line to be realized.

The regional ministerial secretary (seremi) of Obras PĆŗblicas, Hugo Cautivo, considered it relevant for the completion of the works, which involve an investment of more than $30 billion, and stated that ā€œwe are in a very advanced stage of the execution of this Chacabuco viaduct which will mean a new gateway to Concepción and also a new exit and communication route with the south of the Bio Bio.ā€

ā€œWe are already entering the final stage of beam installation, in this stage corresponding to Cepa 13, which is also a complex area because it involves the launching of beams over the railway line, so very specific, very fine coordination with the railway company is required here to avoid any impact on a main artery for both freight transport and the Biotren itself,ā€ explained the authority.

Cautivo added that ā€œwe are all obviously waiting for this to be completed with a sense of urgency, it will obviously generate a great benefit from the point of view of the use of the Bicentenario Bridge, but it will also mean that we can return to normality here on Avenida Padre Hurtado with all the interventions that have been taking place here. Let us remember that the works for the Hincado de Pilote of the Puente Esmeralda are also being executed here, so that is also part of the coordination that has been taking place because it is perhaps the main urban intervention in the city of Concepción in the last 20 years.ā€

Meanwhile, the regional director of Vialidad, Juan AndrĆ©s Vega, stated that ā€œwe will carry out nighttime work, because the railway line is electrified, and during the time the maneuver is carried out, the track must not be electrified.ā€

Vega acknowledged that ā€œwhen we talk about the intervention of the Chacabuco axis, it implies, among other things, connecting the roadway of the Bicentenario Bridge with Avenida Chacabuco, but this also has two logics, one of landscaping which is the environment, let’s say, associated with the viaduct and also the recovery of public spaces which is very important especially for this city.ā€

According to the SecretarĆa Regional Ministerial de Obras PĆŗblicas, the works show progress exceeding 68%, with completion projected for the end of the year.
