The port authorities of Central America addressed the future challenges of the sector at a meeting taking place in Panama, the host country of the XLVII Port Meeting of the Central American Isthmus (Repica 2025), inaugurated by the Maritime Authority of Panama (AMP), together with the Central American Commission for Maritime Transport (Cocatram).
Volney Guinard, general secretary of the AMP and president pro tempore of Cocatram, indicated that “we live in challenging times for the port and logistics sector. Globally, we face market volatility, pressure to move towards more sustainable and low-carbon operations. In the Central American and Caribbean sphere, there is the added urgency to modernize infrastructure, improve connectivity, and strengthen our technical and human capacities to maintain competitiveness.”
The general administrator of the AMP, Luis Roquebert, added that “Repica 2025 aims to be a space where the experience and knowledge of each participant becomes collective learning. What unites us is the conviction to drive sustainable, competitive, and solid growth.”
The instance offers a space for the exchange of experiences, knowledge, and best practices, with the objective of strengthening authorities, companies, and port operators through the presentation of new trends and capacity development in the sector.
For five days, delegations from Belize, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Dominican Republic, Panama, and other countries will analyze strategies related to sustainable public policies, technological innovation, and logistical security. The agenda includes technical panels, keynote conferences, and a commercial fair with specialized suppliers.
