Gijon – The “Mercedes Pinto”, a 123-meter high-speed ro-pax ferry designed by Incat Crowther for the Spanish shipowner Baleària and built at the Astilleros Armon Gijón shipyard, has been launched in Spain. This is the third unit of the series, after the Eleanor Roosevelt and Margarita Salas, also built by Astilleros Armon. The outfitting work will continue in the coming months, ahead of sea trials scheduled for the beginning of 2026. The new ship will be able to accommodate 1,200 passengers and 425 vehicles.
The ship will help reduce the company’s environmental impact through the use of liquefied natural gas (LNG), which will allow for a 30% reduction in CO2 emissions and completely eliminate sulfur and particulate emissions.
The president of Baleària, Adolfo Utor, emphasized that the construction of the third LNG unit stems from “the excellent results offered by the sister units in terms of navigation, comfort, and passenger satisfaction.”
