Bergen-based carrier buys ships from Maersk Product Tankers. The latest sales follow the tanker company’s divestment of 15 vessels last year.
Maersk Product Tankers continues to trim its fleet via new ship sales, the carrier confirms to WPO.
The tanker shipping company, owned by A.P. Moller Holding and Mitsui, has divested four vessels to Norwegian carrier Rederiet Stenersen, based in Bergen.
These most recent sales come after Maersk Product Tankers’ divestment of 15 ships last year and entail an owned fleet now counting 55 vessels, according to the carrier. Including the four latest ship sales, the tanker company has sold six vessels this year so far.
”We can confirm that Maersk Product Tankers has sold the four Intermediate ships. The company has a strategy of continually adjusting the fleet size and composition across its segments to generate financial returns for investors and keep exposure in line with market developments,” the carrier comments to WPO.
The four Intermediate ships – Bro Nibe, Bro Nakskov, Bro Nordby and Bro Nyborg – were built in 2007. Maersk Product Tankers doesn’t name the selling price to WPO.
According to Norwegian media Finansavisen, Stenersen means to finance these purchases by way of a Chinese leasing agreement. With the four ships, the carrier will have a fleet of 20 vessels.
