Contecon Guayaquil sets a new container handling record

Must read

The Ecuadorian terminal, managed by Ictsi, exceeds 14,000 units in one week thanks to 18 years of investments in infrastructure and technology

Guayaquil – The Contecon Guayaquil terminal, managed by International Container Terminal Services Inc (Ictsi), has reached a historic milestone for Ecuador’s foreign trade by moving 14,000 containers in a single week.
The result is the fruit of over 18 years of investments, amounting to more than 510 million dollars, which have enhanced infrastructure and technology. Among the key projects is the new refrigerated storage facility, inaugurated in January with an investment of 4.8 million dollars in partnership with Cool Carriers, which has improved the logistics of the fruit supply chain, reducing waiting times and guaranteeing the optimal conservation of products.
According to the CEO Jesús Cáceres, the record was made possible by the trust of clients, the commitment of employees, and the support of the authorities, confirming the terminal’s role as Ecuador’s gateway to global markets and its importance for the country’s economic growth.
The Undersecretary of Ports and Maritime and River Transport, Bryan Andrade, also emphasized how the terminal’s response capacity has strengthened national competitiveness. Currently, in fact, 59% of imports from Asia enter through Contecon Guayaquil, which confirms itself as Ecuador’s main port of call.
For the future, a new investment of 10 million dollars is planned for the creation of the Special Development Economic Zone (Zede), whose construction will begin in 2026, with the objective of transforming Guayaquil into a regional hub for accessing new markets.
