Scan Global Logistics expands to India

Must read

Scan Global Logistics (SGL) announced its expansion into India, a strategy that marks the idea of establishing a direct presence in the country and consolidating its position as a global carrier.

Allan Melgaard, Global CEO of SGL, stated that “for SGL, establishing itself in India has been a major priority for a long time. Initially, we are starting operations in three locations, but our ambitions are high and we plan to open several additional offices soon.”

India is the fifth largest economy in the world, with an annual GDP growth of 6% to 7%. Predictions suggest that by 2075 it will be the second largest economy, with a purchasing power 30% higher than that of the United States.

Melgaard added that “by participating in the current rapid development, not only in India, but in the region, we see a huge opportunity for further growth and expansion that will benefit both existing and new clients.”

SGL’s expansion into India comes at a time when the country’s position in global trade is becoming even more critical, with increasing foreign investment and growing demand for efficient and reliable logistics solutions. By establishing a local presence, the firm is in a privileged position to serve both multinational companies operating in India and companies from that nation in international expansion, offering tailored solutions that align with the country’s dynamic economic growth.

The first three offices will be located in Chennai, Delhi, and Bombay, with the latter being the headquarters.

Vikash Agarwal will lead the team as CEO of India, who, before joining SGL, was Managing Director for South Asia at AP Moller-Maersk, where he oversaw operations in India, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Nepal, and the Maldives. Previously, he held various positions of responsibility at CEVA Logistics.

Allan Melgaard commented that “entering India took us a little longer than expected, but we needed to find people who shared our purpose and our vision about clients and entrepreneurship, rather than opening without finding the right person. We have already found the right team and we are confident we have made the right decision.”

“India is an exciting market where speed, flexibility, and trust relationships are more important than ever. We are building an agile organization from scratch, with the ability to make quick decisions and deliver solutions that fit our clients’ needs,” said Agarwal.

SGL’s expansion into India is a natural continuation of its global growth strategy. During the last year, the company has strengthened its presence through key acquisitions, such as Blu Brasil, Foppiani Shipping & Logistics, in Italy, and ITN Logistics, in Canada.
