The conversion of a warehouse into a specialized cold storage facility marks a new milestone in the collaboration between the global dairy producer Arla and Maersk, its main logistics provider. Starting next summer, Arla will use a unit of the Maersk facilities in /Fredericia, Denmark, to store temperature-sensitive dairy products.
“As a global dairy company, owned mainly by the producers who produce our milk, we continuously seek more cost-effective and efficient logistics solutions. Our collaboration with Maersk allows us to develop integrated solutions that contribute to increasing the efficiency and resilience of our global supply chain, something we would not have with our internal operations,” stated David Boulanger, Executive Vice President and Head of Supply Chain at Arla.
Maersk will install an integrated storage solution, as well as a state-of-the-art refrigeration system, to ensure optimal conditions in the existing facilities. The 9,100 m² space is part of the first new construction in Denmark with Breeam Excellence certification, operated entirely by Maersk in /Fredericia. The new solution will feature two chambers with controlled temperatures at 2 °C and 5 °C, with strict thermal separation. The 5 °C zone will be fully automated using AGVs (Automated Guided Vehicles).
“We are proud to continue our collaboration with a global company like Arla, improving and strengthening their cold chain logistics. The new cold storage warehouse in Denmark is another pillar of our integrated logistics solution to serve our customers throughout their supply chain,” specified Birna Odefors, Managing Director of Maersk Area Nordics.
