Livorno, – The ship flying the Israeli flag “Zim Virginia” left the port of Livorno yesterday. This was announced in a union note from the provincial CGIL, specifying that following the protests and mobilization carried out in recent days by the port workers, the Israeli ship left the port of Livorno “without unloading or loading any goods”.

“An important result – declares the general secretary of CGIL Livorno Gianfranco Francese in the note – not only for the port community but for the entire city. The Livorno port community strongly rejects the genocidal strategy of the Netanyahu government. Two days ago, Filt-Cgil had officially communicated the interruption of the cooling-off clauses and the calling of a strike for all those port operations related to this type of traffic. In front of the Terminal Darsena Toscana, a permanent, well-attended protest vigil was then set up, waiting for the ship’s arrival. This morning the Zim Virginia docked, but the port workers immediately made it clear that they would fold their arms and would not load or unload anything.

“We reiterate that what is happening in Gaza is not a war – continues Francese – but a real genocide perpetrated by the Nazi-fascist government of Netanyahu. The CGIL will continue to fight for the self-determination of the Palestinian people and to support the Global Sumud Flotilla, the largest non-governmental humanitarian operation ever seen in recent years. If the flotilla is attacked, we are ready to immediately declare a general strike”.
