On September 30, Turkey’s Directorate General of Coastal Safety confirmed that the general cargo vessel Arda suffered an engine failure near Umuryeri in Istanbul, leading to a temporary halt of traffic in both directions through the Bosphorus.
The Panama-flagged vessel, which was sailing from Bandırma to Russia, stalled in the busy strait before being stabilized and moved to anchor at Büyükdere under the coordination of Istanbul Vessel Traffic Services. A pilot was onboard at the time, and tugboats Kurtarma-4 and Kurtarma–6 assisted in securing the ship.
Officials reported that the Arda was safely anchored without further issues, allowing two-way maritime traffic to resume. No injuries or pollution were recorded in connection with the incident.
